The Justice Department announced last week it would send in federal law enforcement as part of a task force to deal with parents and others who threaten public school staff and board members.
While no one, including parents, should be threatening school faculty and board members, the DOJ’s memorandum isn’t really about dealing with threats. That is a matter that should be left to local law enforcement. Instead, the DOJ appears committed to intimidating parents and others who vociferously, but peacefully, express dissent.
The showdowns parents are causing are a move straight out of the Left’s playbook on college campuses. We’ve seen time and again how the far Left disrupts events that aren’t in line with their orthodoxy. To condemn parents but not the leftist conduct is hypocritical.
You know what else is hypocritical? The Left opposing the federal government sending in the federal authorities when there’s actual violence, as was the case in cities nationwide last summer, but not minding sending in the feds against school parents. These parents are, in the large majority of cases, peacefully expressing outrage at mask and vaccine mandates or leftist curricula, including critical race theory.
Power can be used or abused. The DOJ under Attorney General Merrick Garland has abused its authority. Parents have the right to express their opinions peacefully as they stand up for their children. Just don’t expect Garland to send in the feds when riots next occur.
The Left has a ‘send in the feds’ hypocrisy problem
